These tools are essential to apply and finish the Polyfilla Smooth Over, so really, you do need to get them also. I'm no plasterer, but making sure you roll on a good layer with the roller and then wipe the blade over as described in the instructions you do get a good result. I have had to put more than one coat on each section to get the finish and there is minimal sanding (depending on how good you are with the blade). Not bad for a home job

The problem here is that these two products just don't seem to work togeather I bought these to apply the polycell smooth and repair plaster what a mess I got Into!the roller just did not apply anything it smeared the plaster or filler around and I couldn't even get the plaster on properly let alone evenly. The smoothing tool is better it does smooth the filler but I ended up applying plaster with a brush first. No way I seemed to be able to get a really good finish with all this on large areas I did eventually get a damaged board smooth but it took so many attempts.

The tool set isn't worth a dang. The roller doesn't hold enough skim and the spreader doesn't spread properly
