Exactly what it "says on the tin". I could remember my dad always having a tin of water pump grease in his garage, I had tried several times to purchase some but had been offered so called "modern alternatives" soft runny, no body in them type of greases that i was assured "would do the job" by well meaning people that perhaps had no real idea that different greases even actually exist beyond what you can buy at certain motor shops. Anyway, I found this on ebay, the description seemed to say it was what I was looking for, the price was right, so I bought some. It is a really great product and does exactly what it should and as far as I can tell is just like that old tin of water pump grease that my dad had in his workshop all those years ago. Ideal for purpose!
As a company specialising in Vintage Bentleys, we have been unable to purchase this product directly from Castrol, for some time. There is nothing on the market that suits the ‘gland’ type water pumps fitted to these cars. I bought this grease suspecting it would not be the original product, but, thankfully it certainly appears to be! I imagine it is old stock in new containers, but perhaps someone is still making it. Nothing like the original Castrol water pump grease it claims to be. The originial (1930s?) is far more tacky and resistant to being washed away.
