Last of the small Olympus 4/3 DSLR Cameras
If you already have an investment in the 4/3 lens system or just want a lightweight DSLR with an optical viewfinder, this may be the camera for you. Now is a good time to purchase second hand 4/3 equipment whilst it is still reasonably modern, but has become affordable. This is the latest and last in the Olympus E400 series of very small DSLR cameras using the 4/3 system. It is capable of mounting any of the Olympus 4/3 lenses and will also work with other lenses that meet the 4/3 standard. In practice it works best with the 14-42mm, 40-150mm and 25mm pancake lenses, all of which are in proportion to the body size. I use this small camera in place of my larger Olympus DSLR when I go on walking trips. The 14-42mm kit zoom lens is capable of excellent picture quality. I prefer an optical to an electronic viewfinder for outdoor work. Good points: Small and lightweight, good Olympus kit lens, optical viewfinder, ability to use screen as viewfinder via "live view" Full 4/3 lens compatibility. Good battery life. Reasonable low light performance. Limitations: No "in body" image stabilisation, screen brightness insufficient for use in very bright sunlight.
