Contemporaries - particularly from while he was at school in Chelmsford - have kindly provided insights, remembering a school friend who clearly made an impact on his generation. Beautiful and memorable read
This was a very well known book in its time although somewhat forgotten in recent times. It deserves to be more widely read, the prose is memorable for its uses of metaphor and wonderful descriptions. It can be a challenging read but it is very enjoyable.
