I bought this because of the filtration feature. The idea that leaves and twigs will get deflected out of the filter seemed to make sense. It comes in black also, mostly available in stores, but I figured that most downspouts are white, not black. And, I laid that familiar 4-inch diameter lime green drain pipe instead of the black corrugated hose, into my trench. So I figured that a white filter would look better than a black one. I don't have anything of a black color anywhere around the house downspouts. I cut the bottom of the downspout to the appropriate length and the filter unit connected easily to it. The bottom of it also fit snugly into the top of my pipe. The only other thing I had to do was to relocate the lower strap (about 2 or 3 inches upwards) that holds the downspout to the siding. Very easy installation. I can't comment about the effectiveness of the screen or the durability of the unit, since I've only had it installed for about 3 weeks. I had a landscape guy tell me that the screen will get brittle and break apart. Perhaps, but I'll take that comment with a grain of salt and deal with it if that happens.
