Smooth, slim, sleek, lovely big screen. I had been using an HTC Hero and wanted to upgrade. Desire S is faster, smoother and if you've got a good signal/wifi then internet experience is pretty quick. The screen is unnervingly sensitive at times; you barely need to touch it for it to respond. Locations has some brilliant facilities except for the option to adjust routes through alternative towns or sites. It tells you that "your route has been calculated" (thank you!) and the choice of 'sat-nav' voice guidance is far better than Google's Navigation. But, I could not find an easy option to set a route following my preferences so it frequently expected me to do a U-turn when I went the way I wanted to go. Excellent camera for stills and video but I think I would prefer a physical button for the shutter. Also the process of taking a photo feels slightly disconnected from touching the shutter 'button', hearing the shutter sound and the bleep. There's no knowing at which precise point the photo has been taken. A minor detail but slightly irritating sometimes. As with the Hero, I also bought a silicone case. It fits snugly but since the on/off and volume switches are almost flush with the body, it is difficult to switch on without having to press rather hard with ones thumbnail! Don't be put off by these minor picky details. This is a superb phone and it just goes to show that, although I love Apple products, they are not the only ones to produce a desirable, stylish, quality phone. I would certainly go for another HTC.Read full review
I had an HTC Desire S and it was stolen. I liked it so much that I replaced it with the exact same model. A smartphone should fit in my hand or my pocket. It should have an SD card slot, but also enough internal memory that I don't need to constant transfer things to the card. It should last for just over 24 hours with average use. So this phone is perfect in those respects. It's a shame it won't be upgraded to the new Android OS, but otherwise it's the best I could hope for.
This is my first smartphone, the rest of the family have iphones but I fancied this one because it is rugged(aluminium case)has a great camera/camcorder, uses micro sd cards for storage and uses the Android operating system. It is very intuitive to use and therefore easy to find your way around the many features. Looks and feels great, the screen is particularly clear and good for watching video/tv. In my opinion it compares well with the iphone 3GS and against the 4S it holds its own bearing in mind the price difference.
I was looking at an Iphone when an independent phone dealer suggested that the Desire 'S' (don't forget the 'S') was the finest phone on the market. I bought one on Ebay and now I fully agree, it's brilliant. It was locked to '02' but I found a unlocking guy on Ebay. It cost me £2.98 and 5 mins to unlock... "unlock_fusion", recommended fast and reasonable cost.
Nice and easy to use. Would recommend anyone looking for a nifty gadget.. Tonnes of free software available for this Andriod phone. Very nice indeed.
