NEW ZONE 2 DVD Languages: French Subtitles: / Serge Tanneur was a great actor, but he ended his career due to stress and went into solitary exile on the Île de Ré. One fine day, his colleague Gauthier Valence, whose career was at the top, asked him to play the role of Alceste in the famous play Le Misanthrope by Molière. He is convinced that Serge will agree to play this character which suits him so well, being himself withdrawn from society and rebellious against humanity. A week of rehearsal then follows, but when Gauthier's agent and his mistress join them on the island for the weekend, the pressure falls on Serge to finally speak out. Is he leading Gauthier along or does he really intend to hit the stage again?.

  • A civilized entertainment

An amusing film, set on the Ile de Re, this shows off Fabrice Luchini's skills in a way which will appeal to those who like him; those who find him irritating may not like it. It takes Moliere and the world of theatre seriously; in other ways the story is quite slight. But it's a civilised entertainment.
