  • A great camera and lens but very cheap construction

Often described as the poor man's T series, not many know that the minitec series retailed for a similar price originally as the T series with only twenty quid between them. The yashica minitec AF has a tessar type, multi coated lens but without the Carl Zeiss branding. The great lens and other features of the camera are let down though by very cheap construction, the whole body is made of very cheap, not very robust plastic, and the film door hinge is just a very thin metal rod threaded through a very thin plastic tube, my particular camera consequently has a slight gape at the top of the film door, not sure if this is enough to cause a light leak but just in case I put a small piece of gorilla tape over it. If you're after top notch construction and not too fussed about the lens, then go for something else. For me personally, it was all about the lens so I can get over the less than quality camera body.
