I bought 2 of these so I had an option on which fuel I use with my Trangia 25 cook set. I have used this burner for gel and solid fuel tablets (Exbit or Heximine). It works fine. Might be a bit slower than the Trangia spirit burner. I don't care. I don't use if for speed. I never timed it. I did fill the burner with as much gel fuel as I could to compare to the spirit burner. The gel did not seem to last as long. I was more interested in how it worked. Heated water fine and I was able to cook food fine. Slower or faster than solid fuel or the spirit burner. I didn't notice nor did I do a side by side comparison.
This is as basic as it gets and quite expensive for a tin with a lid that does not provide a seal. It is not appropriate for storing small quantities of unburnt fuel and offers little advantage over any other sweet ton of suitable size. Light though and it does fit in the kettle with the standard burner and handle (at least in the 25 kettle).
