China syndrome...
Seems like it might be filled with wax, certainly something other than gas (which would probably leak after a very short time) as it's stand alone. As the (wax?) heats up, the needle moves. I used it as a replacement on my multi-point, it's around the same size a my Vaillant multi-point original, at a fraction of the cost. Just had to butcher (!) the control panel a bit...
