  • Latecomer to 'Poldark' - totally devoted

I enjoy the feel of a book in my hand, as opposed to the more modern methods. Comfortable to handle (especially in bed) unlike hardbacks and tablets which can be quite heavy. Bought this, as a latecomer to the 'Poldark' series on TV and find it essential reading at bedtime. I like the way it is written, with attention to details and thoughts/feelings which are not apparent on TV. I am not skipping pages (or whole chapters) to find out what happens later. In fact, I can't put the books down - often extending my 'reading-time' well into the small hours. I am already on No 8 out of 12 and do not know what I will read when I have completed the series. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a well-written historical novel.

  • Not only history, but daily life too of rich and poor. Excellent.

I read these books years ago, almost 50 years, and so when the TV produced the Poldark series, i was delighted. BUT it was far from what I had remembered, so was determined to read them again. I was SO GLAD i bought these books, it is another world.

  • Wonderful

I bought this for my wife for Christmas and after eight days she is already up to book six, "The Four Swans". She cannot put it down. Winston Graham is an excellent author and the Poldark collection of stories is exceptionally well written, engaging, and believable. His characters "live" as does Cornwall, the part of the world where the story is set. If you enjoyed the TV series you will enjoy the books even more.

  • The Poldarks Journey Through History

The TV series is absolutely mesmerising/ fantastic but cannot give all the extra little background details and thoughts of the characters. Winston Graham is a top rate author who colours the characters and their lives with so much extra detail. The weather, the clothes, the thoughts of the characters the food, he takes you to Cornwall in all its seasonal changes. The history of the time, the advent of steam, all the politics and power. The Battle of Waterloo and the effects on society...and the Poldarks The books have plenty of interest for everyone. As stated on the books, Winston Graham has everything and the a whole lot more.

  • excellent read, excellent value.

Volumes are in excellent condition, in fact they appear to be brand new. Last read in the mid 1970s before the final 5 were written.

  • Good value and immensely enjoyable

I bought the full series in paperback form as it was cheaper than kindle. I have found the books, so far, addictive. A cross between a love story and historical fiction. Not my usual genre but enjoying it immensely. I dropped a star because I find it a bit flowery in parts.

  • Gripping

I have got into the tv series of poldark and wanted to read the novels. I'm only on the second one but don't want to put them down. They are a little hard going at times with the old fashioned English but I'm enjoying reading them so far!
