Old design works very well
Yakima is famous for reinventing their products, whether for improvement or for marketing. These older style TLC saddles were/are one of the best designs they ever came up with but they quit making them long ago. The angle adjustment to fit the side of a kayak is simple and works. The padding is very grippy, so grippy that I removed the ones off the rear saddles so I could slide my plastic kayak on easier. A composite boat does slide easier on the padding. Easy to mount on Yak or Thule bars and surprisingly, not a lot of wind noise when empty. If you can find a good used pair, it's a good buy.
