Good product, tough instructions
Unit does exactly what it is supposed to do, provide quality video. The unit isn't for the novice if you are looking for a unit that you simply plug in and expect to play without some issues. The first downfall is the setup menu is in protégées language and CANNOT be switched to English. But the language is close enough be able to figure out how to get the unit to play. Unfortunately every time the unit loses power or gets unplugged the setup needs to be performed again. This is not a giant factor for me since all my equipment is plugged into power surges with battery backups. I'm in the video business and part of my service involves converting clients tapes to digital video, so I don't need to know how to setup the unit for anything more than playing a tape. After all who records on vhs tape anymore to need to know how to setup the timer and channels etc. There is no time or tape counter displayed on the front of the unit, this information can only be viewed by pushing the "display" button and viewing it on your tv/monitor, again not something I need access to. I'm rating the unit a 4 star since is does provide a rock solid picture by using four video heads, auto tracking as well as manual tracking, which are important on some of the older vhs tape I have to work with from clients. The units play NTSC and PAL-M. Additionally the units have zero hours on the video heads since they are unused BRAND NEW units, and should have a good life span ahead. It's not a 5 star due to the language barrier and the problem of having to do setups over every time the unit loses power. Also don't confuse PAL-M with PAL and Secam, do your research if you are looking for a multi format unit. The unit also only plays back in mono audio, there is only a single channel audio jack on the units.
