I am an avid collector of Britain's Soldiers. They appeal to me from an aesthetic point of view as well as a tribute to that magnificent body of men: the British Indian Army. My Father served in Indian Army at the tail end of the Second World War. He was proud to have the Star of India on his cap-badge and thought the Army a great unifying force for the whole sub-continent. Indeed he persuaded me to serve overseas with a foreign army during my time in the British Army as a way of getting to understand other cultures than our own. My collection is displayed en-masse and shows the colour and pageantry associated with eh military in times of peace and stability. There is of course a more potent undertaking for soldiers but on events like the Delhi Durbar then ceremony was to the fore. The model soldiers bring me enjoyment and make me think of past glories and a shared history.
