  • A French film by Agnes Varda starring Sandrine Bonnaire about a young woman living as a vagabond on the Freezing plain of the South of France in winte

This is one of my favourite French films. By Agnes Varda, it made a star of Sandrine Bonnaire who plays a young woman who lives as a homeless vagabond on the freezing winter landscape of the plain in the Herault region of the South of France, going down to the Mediteranean sea. (Beziers / Montpellier region) A realist film, rather in the style Ken Loach's films in England. I know that region well, and the film and it's characters capture the essence of the place at the time, (1980's) and the people you were likely to meet. The strange, desolate landscape of tortured-looking black vines acts as an excellent backdrop to the lost, but defiant young woman, who lives a life unconstrained by rules. The film was at a good price. I had been looking for this film for a while, and was so pleased to find it.
