nikon is probably one of the best cameras out for photography, i have had one before and took some really fantastic shots, i had various lenses, three in all and all in good working order, the nikon is good for beginners and for experienced photographers too, its easy to use and not hard to follow the menu, in fact it's very easy and there's a switch on top of the camera that allows you to switch from various menues to auto, it's light and very compact, all in all, a very nice camera.

I bought this to use more or less exclusively with a 55mm lens so I didn't have to keep swapping lenses with my other camera body. It is used to compliment my D5100. Works well, simpler menus but enough features. I like the switch under the function wheel, I would like this on the D5100. Compatible with my existing lense so for the money well worth it. A good mid spec camera for those (like me) moving up from bridge cameras and lots of lenses available. Same battery as the D5100 so that's another plus. Only thing missing was a strap. Lots of help on the internet to get going.

I bought the d3100 after a not insignificant amount of research into entry-level DSLRs. I am reviewing this as a first-time DSLR owner who wanted to get a good camera primarily for astrophotography but which could also be used for general photos. In both these areas I have found it more than adequate. The supplied lens is suitable for most things I have wanted to use it for, though it might be nice if it was a little faster. There are no issues with battery life; if I'm going to do 20-30 minutes' worth of exposure for star trails I can normally get away with anything over half level. Live view and 1080p video are both bonuses, and the guide mode provides an great quick intro to the features and control a DSLR offers. However, after reading lots of positive reviews, I also bought Jeff Revell's book, "Nikon d3100: From Snapshots to Great Shots", and did not regret it at all. It is a great intro to what camera features to use when, whether to use a wide or narrow aperture, long or short shutter and all the sort of things that you can control.Read full review

It's been nearly 4 weeks since I've had this camera. It's not too bad actually and most of it seems fine. So far I've had no problems with it but the battery life is shorter than I expected. So I plan to buy another battery, just in case. The case that came with it has been very useful to carry the camera. I bought this camera simply because I love taking pictures and I thought it was time to go HD, which has a great impact on a photo and focuses on details. What I most like about it is the fact that it is great for a beginner looking for a DSLR camera, but what I dislike about it is the price it costs especially. I wouldn't buy the product again because it took me a very long time to save up and buy it.
