This Linksys started the whole DD-WRT, Tomato, Open-WRT thing. Linksys used some open source GPL code and so had to publich what they had build. This was the seed for all the new versions of the Linux based Firmware. Linksys did fight it at one time but this Iconic blue and gray router led the way in Hotspots, Wireless Internet Service Providers and excellent VPN on the cheap to name but a few. If you like to tinker or simply want serious routing on a cheap plastic box then DD-WRT is a good place to start. The WRT-54G and GS is a classic although you might want to chose a cheaper router with DD-WRT installed. If it's running DD-WRT then you know it could run other distros like Tomato which is very good indeed although less well known. However I think you're a little late to the party as this was cutting edge stuff 10 years ago. Most routers have learned from DD-WRT and unless you need very advanced features then standard routers from ASUS and TP-Link have the DD-WRT features. Actually the TP-Link ones get flashed to DD-WRT quite a lot. Anyway, it's Linux based, it's powerful and if you want to get where the action was then get this. If you want todays action then get a Raspberry PI 3.Read full review

Nice router, and easy to set up. Now I can see what devices on my network are eating the internet. The Wifi signal is strong and the Tomato software is simple to use. The build of the router is solid, the antennae are very well connected to the router body. There were only one down side to the device, the power supply lead supplied was extremely short so I needed to buy a short extension.

It's a shame that Linksys have stopped making these excellent devices. Good job there are plenty to pick up on sites like eBay. The biggest draw of the WRT54G series are how easy there are to modify and flash with custom firmware such as DD-WRT or Tomato.
Old and I do not make it work, aaaaaaa live in Sweden and we do not have antique power outlets here.
