Jabra Cruiser 2 vs Motorola Roadster 2

I bought this unit to replace the Motorola Roadster 2 that finally quit on me after well over 5 years. I liked the Roadster and thought about simply replacing it with the same model, but I decided to try to find one that is even better. Surprisingly there is still no Roadster 3, and the newest Jabra products didn't impress me much. I'm glad I found a refurbished Cruiser 2. Here is how the two compare so far: Sound quality: both are pretty good. I think the Roadster was a bit louder, and maybe it was a bit easier for others to understand me on the phone. FM transmitter: my primary reason for buying this unit. I liked being able to turn on the Roadster and immediately press the FM button. The Cruiser makes you wait until it connects with the phone, then it will let you press the FM button. The upside is, when you push the FM button on the Cruiser it starts transmitting right away, while the Roadster would make you wait for it to announce the frequency before it started transmitting. The big advantage of the Cruiser is its power. It was hard to find an open station on the Roadster, but the Cruiser seems to have no trouble overpowering all but the strongest local stations. The battery on the Roadster lasted a really long time. By contrast the Cruiser needs to be recharged after about a week. Not a serious drawback for me. Also, the Roadster would go to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity and would wake up magically when I reentered the car. The Cruiser doesn't have that feature. Again, not a big deal for me. Besides the FM transmitter, I'd say the Roadster is generally a better product. However, since the FM transmitter is my main motivation for buying the unit, and the stronger FM signal makes it so much easier to maintain good sound quality, especially while traveling, I prefer the Cruiser. My Roadster was always easy to pair with, but the Cruiser needs you to press a key sequence to start pairing mode. Contrary to what the manual says. It was fairly easy to figure out, though. I don't yet have the long term relationship with the Cruiser that I had with the Roadster, so I can't say there won't be other things that will impress or depress me about the Cruiser, but I'm really glad I bought it, and fairly sad that it was discontinued when it hasn't, to my knowledge, been replaced with a better product. I guess they still don't make them like they used to.

  • Most critical review

Works, but needs very frequent echarge.

Bought to use as hands free car speaker phone. Good points: Sound is good, responds properly to ANSWER command on incoming call, announces caller name or number. Not so good: Battery seems near end of life. needs recharge before end of long trip (a few hours), and definitely by next morning. * This was a used item, at a good price. I am keeping it to use as a hands free speaker in my home office, plugged in to the USB port on my desktop computer so it does not rely on the battery. Even when it is not paired I see the charge led go to red off and on, But it works while plugged in to computer for power.

  • Good product, wish there was a better mounting feature

This product works well. The only thing is I wish there was a better way to mount it in the car than the metal clip, but it's nothing a suction cup and some super glue or tape couldn't fix.

  • Jabra Cruiser 2 bluetooth speaker is worth it.

The price was great & decided to try it. I didn't want to spend $1K on a new stereo with phone integration. It works so well I bought 3 more.
