An superb value for money purchase. Pin sharp, excellent contrast, typical Olympus quality lens, works well with with an adapter on my Olympus 4/3 camera.

No problem adapting this lens to my digital camera. Got the picture I was after, at a fraction of the price.

Excellent lens with almost no marks on the body or the optics. Focussing is a bit stiff but otherwise very happy.

Nice Zuiko lens, manual focus, sturdy construction, excellent optical quality, limited size and weight - in the Olympus tradition. Filter diameter 72mm; built-in retractable lens-hood; originally supplied with a useful tripod mount collar. Introduced in the 70s. late models marked ZUIKO AUTO-T are multicoated and better. Can be boosted to 420mm f/6.3 with the Zuiko 1.4x teleconverter, at the expense of moderate optical performance degradation. Adapter rings (including AF confirm) for Canon, Sony and other digital bodies exist. Despite its age, the Zuiko 300/4.5 compares well to more recent and fashionable lenses with the same focal length from other top firms, both in terms of optical specs and photographic quality. As of 2012, the Zuiko 300/4.5 have been sold on ebay from EUR 200 (GBP 165, US$ 262, JPY 21K) on, depending on cosmetic condition. Occasionally, spare/repair (i.e., non working) units can be bought for much less - but the needed workaround can be fairly expensive. As for any lens of this focal length, tripod mount is recommended. Even with a firm hand, I would not use exposure times longer than 1/250 sec. Depth of field should be also properly handled. It can be a nightmare or a formidable creative tool, depending on your skills. I used this lens on film as well as on digital, for distant landscape, portrait and action, with total satisfaction.
