Product Information
A trophy wife proves capable of much more than acting as an adornment for her egotistical husband in director Francois Ozon's adaptation of the hit play by Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre GrΘdy. Sainte-Guenole, France: 1977. Their children having long since grown up and moved out, submissive housewife Suzanne Pujo (Catherine Deneuve) spends most of her days catering to her ornery husband Robert (Fabrice Luchini), the owner of his family's prosperous umbrella factory. But Robert is hardly a savvy businessman, so when his workers protest their poor working conditions by going on strike, the stress leads him to suffer a massive heart attack. This provides Suzanne with the perfect opportunity to finally show her true value, and with a little help from the mayor (and her former lover) Maurice Babin (GΘrard Depardieu), the much ridiculed trophy wife manages to get the factory up back up and running so efficiently that the exasperated, trash talking workers are forced to eat their words.Product Identifiers

ReviewsGuardian UK - It is a period pastiche executed with brilliant attention to detail and a weird, suppressed passion, like a sitcom in a bad dream., Variety - Francois Ozon effortlessly moves back to the mainstream with another sparkling, occasionally side-splitting adaptation of a French boulevard-theater play., Hollywood Reporter - Potiche has plenty of contemporary sparkle and life, courtesy of a masterful central performance by grande dame Catherine Deneuve as an oppressed bourgeois housewife who finds liberation., Daily Telegraph - Ozon's film has its winking way with Deneuve, and she winks right back at it: she's funny, loose and charming, but also aptly exasperated, and there's room for a strain of melancholy ., Time Out - It's as light and soft as a pink satin pillow, and a little overstretched, but it's also packed with bawdy zingers and pointed political barbs.
