This is another well-edited and well-presented book from DK (Dorling Kindersley), perhaps the best publisher of all. It reviews more than sixty of the most famous paintings in the world, with both text and copious illustrations. Although Euro-centred, it does not neglect masterpieces from America, the Orient and elsewhere. It is not truly an art history, more an eclectic selection of pictures that over time have enthralled, inspired, or even set new parameters. Enjoyable in itself, it may also tempt the reader to look for more lengthy and profound discussions in areas of special interest. Suitable for anyone keen on the subject from 12 to 102.
