    THE MASTER

    20 tracks from varying years but of excellent reproduction highlight the true and beautiful voice of PAUL ROBESON. Each song, though sung by other performers, is associated with him from "Ol' Man River," to "Land Of My Fathers." This man was a star in the UK during the nineteen twenties, even though in 1929 he was barred from The Savoy Grill because of his colour, he was hugely loved by the people. Films he made in Wales are still being shown on Freeview television today! I grew up with his music, I watched his concerts with just a piano accompaniment as well as with a full orchestra and chorus. In his day he was the voice of freedom for the black Americans, and their Government and the FBI labelled him a commie and took away his passport. In the fifties Senator McCarthy blacklisted him denying the great man work as a singer and actor humiliating him as only the Americans can. With no passport he couldn't escape. He was 77 years old when he died in 1976. Very rarely do you hear his name in America today yet he was the greatest of all voices for the freedom of the black man, his music catalogue shows that. Anyhow, this is a lovely cd, and I recommend it to anyone.
