Awesome reel in 180 ft of water
Firstly the reel was delivered in three days of my purchase in great condition. I was excited and decided to test it out in an offshore trip targeting Black Sea bass. Thought I’d be in about 100 foot of water or so. Getting there took 4 hours, way out there. The guy next to me was fishing with an electric reel and the depth was 180ft. I pulled up double headers of sea bass and huge porgies and bluefish all day long. This reel was amazing. Retrieve was smooth and fast. Can’t wait to see this thing destroy fish in the bays of Long Island in shallow water. Be buying the 6500 soon as it has a larger line to reel retrieve. Received this reel and loaded up with 30# Daiwa J-Braid late last week. Have only had an opportunity to utilize on one occasion to date; targeting Black Sea Bass and Triggerfish. Reel was paired with a custom made 7' length/15 -30# line spinning rod ... both the reel and rod performed exceptionally well in water depths ranging between ~ 55' to 85'. Solid reel, great quality.
I have 3 of these reels, 2 are the 4500 and 1 is the 5500 and I love them all. They have great drag, are built very well but with that quality hardware inside comes the weight. Still a good mid-level reel.
