A Lot For Your Money
My Gamo Whisper CFR is starting to settle down after two hundred shots. Thirty yard groups are beginning to shrink from 3-3.5 inches to under two inches with JSB Exact 8.44 grain .177 pellets.
Knowing how the spring-piston power plant works, I expect accuracy and smoothness to improve
as the rifle continues to break in.
The blueing and overall finish is good for a rifle under $200. The stock is comfortable with the adjustable cheekpiece permitting a stable cheek weld. Cocking is easy but you can hear a bit of spring compression. Discharge is fast. You can hear spring noise, not unusual for an air rifle in this price range.
The trigger is OK. I maintained a good sight picture through the shooting cycle.
The rifle is long; taking two inches off the total length would produce a handier rifle. There are plenty of videos available on the internet showing how to tune this popular rifle. The packaged scope is clear and, so far, has held zero. The mount has not shifted. Gamo uses a scope base that neutralizes, to a degree, the double recoil of the spring-piston power plant.
Overall, I am pleased with my Gamo CFR. I bought it to shoot beer cans, clay pigeons, field targets, and water filled balloons out to 50 yards. The Gamo does this very well. My Gamo CFR is refurbished, but I could not detect any signs of prior usage.
I like that I paid under $200 for a well made air rifle that meets my needs exceedingly well. It is a terrific value.
