Product Information
Experience the excitement of Chip Foose's innovative design with this Manhattan and HemisFear Hot Wheels collector's edition set from Mattel. These cars are a coveted addition to many personal collections. Both cars feature authentic details such as Real Rider rubber tires. This limited edition Hot Wheels set was originally released by Mattel in 2001. It highlights Foose's unique style which blends classic car elements with futuristic concept car design. The set comes with a custom Mattel Hot Wheels plastic display case. As expected from Mattel and Hot Wheels, these cars are made from high-quality diecast metal with exquisitely detailed paint. The cars are about 3 inches long and set to 1:64 scale. An American automobile designer, Chip Foose starred in Overhaulin', the Velocity reality television series. At 7 years old, Foose was working on cars at his father's design company. In 1990, he graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He designed cars for various companies. Then, in 1998, he started Foose Design. In 2004, he became the star of Overhaulin', which was originally on TLC from 2004 until 2008. The show was picked up by Velocity and the Discovery Channel from 2012 until 2015. The show focused on the surprise redesign of a worn out antique or collector car in one week. Chip, his team, and friends and family would create a story about the car's disappearance for the owner. Then, one week later, the newly redesigned car would reappear. The owners were lucky because Chip Foose designs are in such demand that his garage is overbooked. Chip Foose designed the HemisFear as a senior project at the Art Center College of Design in 1990. The Chrysler-sponsored senior project was to create a car for a niche market. Chip wanted to create a car for a new, non-existing niche market. He created a 1:5 scale model that was featured in an issue of Hot Rod magazine. His senior project model became the inspiration for the Plymouth Prowler. He worked on a chassis for a real version, but his efforts were limited by time constraints. In 2005, he signed a deal with RC2 Corp for a diecast version of the HemisFear. That deal included seed money to build a real version of the HemisFear. A limited edition production was announced at the SEMA 2006 show. The HemisFear is part muscle car, part supercar, and part custom vehicle. The Manhattan is a type of concept car looking for a buyer. When he finds a buyer, Chip Foose hopes to create a new niche combining hot rods with luxury cars. Someday, he hopes to see the Manhattan at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. This retired Chip Foose design HemisFear and Manhattan Hot Wheels collectors set displays Foose's classic-futuristic combination style. It could be a starter piece or an addition to a Mattel Hot Wheels diecast collection. Knowledgeable collectors can appreciate the historic significance of this set of vehicles, and it could spark a satisfying, long-lasting interest for others.Product Identifiers
