  • Perfect to use prior to expansion tank and hot water heater

When replacing a hot water tank for my girlfriend, I decided that her setup of having only a shutoff valve and vacuum breaker at the tank inlet had to go. Using a vacuum breaker is ridiculous for a hot water tank in a basement....but I guess some local codes require either that, or a check valve and expansion tank. The latter approach is far superior, I believe. No open/close action to the air, no chance of the action allowing a huge leak upon malfunction. What I love about this Watts double check valve is both its simplicity and its features. Lead free. Aesthetically nice. Well made. Female 3/4 connections on each end. No need to worry about melting anything internal, thanks to the union in the middle of it. A torch never needs to go near it ....just keep it in its box while you sweat 3/4 male fittings onto appropriately spaced pipe ends (preferably in an arrangement allowing slack to spread/close the gap), then thread each half of this onto that, then tighten the union.
