NotesDeluxe box including four vinyl LPs, five CDs, A DVD, 64 page book, a Metallica patch and more. Digitally remastered edition of the second studio album by Metallica, originally released in 1984. The album was recorded in three weeks with producer Flemming Rasmussen at the Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The artwork, based on a concept by the band, depicts an electric chair in the midst of a thunderstorm. The title was taken from a passage in Stephen King's novel The Stand. Although rooted in the thrash metal genre, the album showcased the band's musical maturity and lyrical sophistication. This was partly because bassist Cliff Burton introduced the basics of music theory to the rest of the band and had more input in the songwriting. Instead of relying strictly on fast tempos as on Kill 'Em All, Metallica broadened it's approach by employing acoustic guitars, extended instrumentals, and more complex harmonies.

  • A Must Have for the Faithful

Metallica fans, specially of the "old school" variety who kneel down before the band's first 4 albums, will rejoice at the amount of material contained in "Ride The Lightning Deluxe Edition". Not only did the band pumped up the volume on this brand new remaster of the album, but included is the original "Creeping Death" picture disc and a live concert from 1985, ALL on vinyl! Also included are 6 CDs, amongst them the album remastered plus various demo versions, outtakes and more live material. There's a small booklet with pictures of the original lyric sheets too. The highlights for me are the book, which at vinyl size lets you appreciate the vast amount of never before photos in pain staking detail. Commentaries by some of the band's close associates at the time (original Metallica Club president KJ Doughton, Metal Forces scribes Dave Constable, Dave Reynolds and Kelv Hellraiser, Cliff Bernstein, Michael Alago, etc) give insight at a magical era when Metallica's star was on the rise from the extreme metal underground and into the mainstream. Also a highlight is a never before released Metallica concert in Europe. Although already posted somewhere on YouTube, this concert shows the devastating thrash power that the band had back in 1985, and a more than clear reminder of how brutal of a drummer Lars Ulrich used to be. He punished his drums like there was no tomorrow and his intense double bass work (specially on "Fight Fire With Fire") will make some wonder why he toned down his drumming assault in recent years (age, most definitely). To top things off, 3 great posters from the era are included, one which actually is a Venom poster and Metallica as opening act, the other 2 have Metallica as headliner and the mighty Tank as special guests. At over $125 USD, it's not a boxset meant for everyone. Only 30,000 were made and they are intended for the ultra hardcore fans, that's the truth about this limited edition boxset. If you're one of those ultra hardcore fans like me, you will no doubt cherish this most precious version of the monumental "Ride The Lightning"!

  • Electrifying deluxe boxset to honor Metallica's second RIDE!

Amazing Deluxe Box, literally the ultimate Ride for Metallica's second album! This bundle has several high notes: The Creeping Death picture vinyl disc is a great inclusion, a unique collector's item! The live concerts are awesome and next to the DVD, you can enjoy the energy and raw power of Cliff's bass and edge for some of the best Metallica of the time. The lyrics notebook is a cute detail complementary to the exclusive book of pictures and anecdotes, and in general, the quality of the sound in this boxset is really great specially considering the time of the recordings. The Demo cd is a great part of the collection as it shows the evolution of the creative process with some of the most iconic songs in Metallica´s repertoire. The lows on this boxset to me can be reduced in to three: The three posters included are too much alike, the package should have four inlets instead of two to fit all the cds+dvd (no need of an inlet for the lyrics notebook), and the mix of the recordings should have enhanced Cliff's bass. Except for the bass solos that are incredible and worth the price of this set on themsefves, Cliff's bass is there in the songs, but it is obvious that the drums are enhanced in the final mixes, which also sound cool, but still not surprising since Lars oversees the whole vault/mixes contained in the boxsets. In general, the Ride the Lightning Deluxe Boxset is a must have for any devoted lover of this album and life-long Metallica's collector!.

  • Thrash It All

Metallica has released the best box set for all their three classic albums and their sophomore album, arguable one of their best and one of the most important albums in the history of thrash metal, surely didn't get left out. The most valuable item in the box set isn't the vinyl or the gatefold cd, but the album booklet which includes photos and documents about the band's historic past.
