Ambush
Its a stirring tale of Roman legions being caught up and betrayed by a rogue Germanic leader who leads the Roman army into the forests. Central character is Rufus, a legionnaire with a chequered history, who gains the trust of his new cohort and emerges as the true leader the book had hinted at. Some gruesome descriptive battle scenes as the book unfolds. I subsequently ordered book 2 which picks up the story again.
