I needed sphagnum moss for my orchid ICU to tend weak or almost rootless orchids back to life and NZ sphagnum moss was the most suitable for the job. I've never used this brand before but so far it's done the job. Although it looks yellow and 'dead' it is still in fact still live. I've kept it damp/moist (never letting it dry out completely) under a light source to supplement indoor lighting for my orchid ward. It took 8-10 weeks before it started to green up at the tips. NZ sphagnum moss is among the cleanest and free from pesticides and fertiliser so it's safe and suitable for amphibians. I have bought different brands from garden centres in the past but since these ones were meant for amphibians and reptiles I was more confident that it would be safe and clean for my weak orchids. I suggest that you moisten the block in a big basin as it's easier and tidier to work with it as you'll have small bits break away and fly everywhere. I would buy again.
Good value and clean, excellent for propagating cuttings, plenty in the compressed bag for many cuttings .has a slight odour when wet. Probably not enough for hanging baskets though.
