  • GREAT FOLK ALBUM

I have to admit this wasn't quite what I expected, Eluveite are a pagan folk metal band, most of their previous albums have been heavy with death like growls infused with folky sounding female voices and rely heavily on folk instruments. This album has almost no metal elements to it at all with the possible exception of the track "catvrix" which contains some growling and is quite tribal sounding. Not a word of this album is in English, the songs are all sung in ancient Gaulish, in keeping with the theme of the album which is based around the myths and Gods of the ancient celts. This in no way spoils the listener enjoying the music in my opinion. Fans who prefer the bands' heavier music may well find it dissapointing, I believe there's also been a line up change with this band, a few long time members have left and the main female singer has left to form her own band. However, I feel this is a strong album in its' own right, a worthy follow up to the album "Pantheon- the arcane dominion." If you prefer the folkier elements of the bands' music then you should listen to this, not a "metal" album by any means. I believe the band plan to release a heavier album to follow this one sometime in 2018. There's a video "Rebirth" on youtube that's a taster for the album to follow this, which is a fantastic song.

  • a more folk sound

After the split, Eluveitie have moved towards a more folk-rock sound. It reminds me of Irish ceilidh music :-) Will be one of my favourite CDs.
