  • Good value but quality not what you expect from Eclipse

It is of course very cheap. I was looking at buying secondhand but saw this and thought why bother with trying to find one local that I could collect. Then when you see it is "Eclipse" you assume a certain level of quality. The castings look great and the machining of the body as it slides back and forth is good. The jaws meet nicely. My only disappointment is the bearing for the spindle or shaft. I haven't taken it to bits yet but where the shaft comes out of the moving body the hole must be much too big so the shaft rotates in a sloppy elliptical arch which just feels and looks very poor. So I will take it to bits and machine a bush to fit in the hole or on the shaft so it feels like it has been engineered. Otherwise I am pleased.
