Didn't know much about either film and hadn't realised that they were made in different eras. in the event they were both well made and engaged me fully.
Chaplin can be over sentimental but the ending of a Woman of Paris was satisfying and right for the story,
As for a King in New York there were whimsical Monsieur Verdoux like moments whilst I could not help reflecting on Chaplin's own unhappy political experiences in the USA; Again the ending (happier) was right on both the film and the director's level which also perhaps too reflected the difference in expectation of mainstream US audiences in the intervening period between the 2 films .
