So my trusty, very old, aluminium hardtail, mtb, which is now my summer commuter, come adventure bike suffered what some would consider a 'bike in bin' failure. Due to being ridden in all weathers and partly due to poor maintenance on my part. I managed to damage the drive side threads of the BB shell, when removing an old BB. Standard BB's would no longer hold securely, as not enough useable threads were able to give purchase. I had tried using threadless BBs by the like of YST or Oxford, but these were only good for square taper cranks. I'd previously had a YST threadless break on me (actual axle broke) and had another come un-done on me on a commute. I had read somewhere that the Saint BB had longer threads on the drive side, as this was to accommodate a chain device. So I took a punt, in the hope that there would be enough extra thread on the Saint drive side BB cup, to engage on the remaining good threads in the BB shell. The punt paid off and my bike is now back on the road again, with a smart Deore x2, HT2 chain-set. The Saint BB is smart looking and stands out being anodised gold, a bit of bling for my old steed. Bearings are nice and smooth, hopefully will last a long time, as it will get plenty of use and abuse.
