  • A thoughtful, adaptable, and highly useable menu guide.

    This little book isn't exactly what I thought it would be, but once I read all the leading chapters I began to understand just what a valuable tool I had in my hands. The book divides the day into four segments, and each segment fits neatly into a 1200-calorie meal plan. The meals aren't made up of outlandish and strange ingredients and are all easy to prepare. Each meal has a very clear description of ingredients and processes. The simply ingenious factor is that the book outlines 350-calorie breakfasts, 350-calorie lunches, 400-calorie dinners, and 100-calorie desserts (a category which I see as a snack item). All meals use familiar ingredients, don't demand chef-class culinary skills, and are fairly easy to prepare. Another very desirable detail to all these recipes is that every one makes 4 servings. Why do I see that as desirable? I can wrap, label and freeze everything (except items that don't freeze well) for another day. Because I live alone and have to watch every penny of my budget like a hawk, cooking four servings and saving three for later seems like a no brainer. It's hard to find good 1200 calorie menu guides. This one is a winner, for sure!!
