A 1960s-era Mississippi debutante sends her community into an uproar by conducting a series of probing interviews with the black servants behind some of her community's most prominent families. Skeeter (Emma Stone) has just graduated from college, and she's eager to launch her career as a writer. In a moment of inspiration, Skeeter decides to focus her attention on the black female servants who work in her community. Her first subject is Aibileen (Viola Davis), the devoted housekeeper who has been employed by Skeeter's best friend's family for years. By speaking with Aibileen, Skeeter becomes an object of scorn to the wealthy locals, who view her actions as directly challenging to the established social order. Love this movie!
I love this movie, all the actors did an amazing job. Th only thing I would change would be Skeeter's hair. I wish they would've used her natural hair and curled it instead of putting that hideous wig on her. This movie was well worth the purchase and in blu-ray quality even better. The disc I bought included a digital copy which is awesome. I can have it on my lap top or phone on the go. They should make all dvd's to include both options. Extremely well done
I grew up in Greenwood, Mississippi, where the majority of this movie was filmed. I have been inside of every home that is in this movie. It was a very well thought out and acted out depiction of the closed minded few as well as the ones who were not. It was an accurate depiction of the Junior League and their holier-than-thou mentality which still continues to this very day. It is funny, witty, happy, sad and thought provoking. This, in and of itself, sets it apart from over 95% of the movies on the market today, in my opinion. I am so happy to own my own copy.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Thoroughly entertaining with mostly comedy carrying the majority of the movie.Not a historical documentary but based on true facts.Add Hilly to my list of great actors I hate but you know if Frank Burns,Percy Wetmore,Hilly Holbrook and many others characters weren't doing a fantastic job of acting they'd not affect anyone like they do. I purchased this movie so that I can show it to my grandchildren. It portrays the prejudice which existed in the south long after the slaves were freed. Having not experienced this for myself, it was very eye-opening. The book is also an excellent read. The characters are very engaging and the humor keeps the movie entertaining. Poignant, a movie everyone should watch.
This is such good movie to teach our children that other people really did and in some cases still do treat others “different “ than themselves like these human beings of color were treated in this film in the 1960’s and before and beyond.
