Additional InformationTwo-time Oscar-winner Meryl Streep steps into the role of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in this biopic from director Phyllida Lloyd (MAMMA MIA!), and screenwriter Abi Morgan (TSUNAMI: THE AFTERMATH, BRICK LANE). Lloyd depicts the elderly Dame Thatcher replaying key moments in her life, graduating from Oxford to meeting Denis Thatcher (Denis Lloyd) to becoming BritainÆs first prime minister. Her life at number 10 Downing Street seeÆs Thatcher closing mines, dodging IRA hits, overseeing a war and building alliances with Airey Neave and Geoffrey Howe. This biopic is an uneasy combination of admiration for her leadership qualities and disappointment in her interpersonal skills. Cast include TYRANNOSAUR'S Olivia Colman, Oscar winning Jim Broadbent, with Richard E. Grant, and Anthony Head co-starring.
ReviewsTime - The Iron Lady is a clever and oddly touching entertainment., Charlotte Observer - Lloyd finesses a deft script of brisk, quick strokes by Abi Morgan (BRICK LANE, SHAME) into a terrific entertainment., New York post - Sincerely directed by one woman (Phyllida Lloyd, who did MAMMA MIA!) and smartly written by another (Abi Morgan), the film stars an unsurpassable Meryl Streep, whose ability to empathize with her characters has never been more gloriously impassioned than it is in this titanic performance.

  • Professionally, Streep's best ever.

Speaking as a Brit: for an American to portray such a quintisential English person, Streep's portrayal is positively amazing. Magie herself couldn't have done a better job. Winning "Best Actress" in the three most prestigious awards is not in the least suprising, anything less would have been criminal. A perenial 'stocking filler'.

  • A memorable tribute

Seen this on television but it is good to have it permanently on dvd. It's sad that her life is seen through the prism of her demenentia so hardly a celebration of a great Prime Minister.

  • Better than you'd think

Not what I expected but good none the less. I lived through it so seeing possible "behind the scenes" antics was quite entertaining.
