Billy needs no introduction, and fans will have seen many of the sketches on this DVD before... but not all of them. Certainly, I had never seen his very first TV special from 1976 which is featured here. Billy is a legendary entertainer and this DVD encapsulates all that is uniquely brilliant about one of the funniest comedians of our times. It's also not one of those "watch it once" DVD's you sometimes come across with stand-ups, it's genuinely watchable many times over. The DVD captures highlights of Billy's career in twenty quickfire, hilarious sketches. It's an hour and a half of pure comedic genius, plus another half hour bonus for the '76 TV debut. There are some old favourites on the DVD such as Cardinal Visit and Wee Beige Jobbie, at a time when Billy was establishing himself in the UK, through the legendary Billy And Albert show represented here with the skits "Wildebeeste" and "Masturbation". There really is no need for a fast forward button on the remote control for this disc as every single clip is priceless. It would be an excellent introduction for anyone who has lived in a cave the past few decades and doesn't know of the riotous Glaswegian, but it's also a fantastic addition to any comedy fans' collection. Billy's observational talent is captured perfectly in his famous "Scrotum" sketch, also featured here. The Big Yin's best bits are all here and it's a real treat. I bought this product because I owned many Billy Connolly DVD's but sold them as I moved house. This item scrunches up some of his best concerts by focussing on his most famous, and funniest, highlights and compressing them into one DVD. As an "always wanting more" kind of guy, my only "would've liked to have seen" on this DVD would have been highlights of his sensational interviews with Michael Parkinson, which were a real treat in the seventies/eighties. But you can't have everything, and what I do have now in this DVD is a disc I can put on anytime (child free zone permitting, it is a 15 rating for a reason)and share with family and friends. Highly recommended!Read full review
