This is my second A1 amp by MF and i have also still got a 27 year old B1 as well. I am no electronics expert but the warmth of the sound they produce is just superb and it is an absolute pleasure to listen to my music using these amps. One thing, they do (the A1 especially) run warm and so don't go placing anything on top or beneath them! £300 will get you one of these and in my opinion the difference in musical quality between these and new amps of the same price range is huge.

Modern update to old A1 easily outclasses the former design. Its a different circuit, and IMO a better unit. 36w class a power, quiet, cool running, great remote and volume control, paired with 90db tannoys are really lovely. Class A sound without vintage reliability problems

This amplifier's problems, it runs very hot and it does not do 'loud' Paint can peel from the top of the amp with age, original 1984 models suffer from capacitor failures. They are quite heavy for the size but if you get a very well looked after 1990s model then keep it as they do hold their value quite well. Value around the £200-£300 price point.

I have owned this Final Edition amp for 20+ years, it is a completely different animal to the normal A1, yes it does run very hot but in 20 odd years, i have never had one problem with it although i have never really driven it hard.

In the top three amps under 40w along with A&R A60 and Marantz 1060. Down side outputs can blown as its runs within a inch of its life but the parts are cheap and easy to fix.
