Don't pay a premium for the A400
I was looking to replace an old NAD 3020 and had decided on an A400 but was unable to find one for the price I wanted to pay, I then came across an ad for the A300R at a reasonable price and took a gamble on it.
You will find reviews saying that these amps are very bright sounding, don't let that put you off they are very detailed but in no way bright or tinny. I would say it is just as warm and musical as my old NAD but with a far more detailed sound.
If you are concerned by the measly sounding 35w output don't be, it has more than enough power for normal home listening, I haven't had the volume past "12 o clock" and that was damned loud, for normal listening I usually have the volume around the "7-8 o clock" position.
It seems perfectly happy with difficult speaker loads too, my Epos speakers are rated at 4ohms and the A300 drives them with ease right up to unreasonable volumes.
So don't pay £50 more for the A400, all you get is an extra 5w that you won't need unless you're trying to recreate a Megadeth gig in your living room.
