I used to have one these excellent zooms back during the film days. I miss the feel of manual focus Nikkors as compared to the newer AF lenses they offer now, which are mostly plastic (quality plastic, but still). I just had to buy another copy. Based on my experience with this lens, it's one of the sharpest zooms among all the Nikkors. Not only that, it has almost no distortion. Straight lines, when photographed with this lens, remains straight. This was my go to lens every time I shoot. I would never leave this lens at home. On my D800 image quality is comparable to my 28-70/2.8 AF-S when stopped down from f/5.6-f/11. There are only two things which can be counted against this lens. First is that the filter turns as you focus, so it's quite a chore to use a polarizer on this one. Second but minor gripe, it's manual focus, of course! But I bet this lens will still be taking great photos long after the electronics on my 28-70/2.8 gives out. So if you think you need one of these, go get one. You'll never be disappointed. Kudos to Nikon for keeping the old F-mount alive. Nikon users have that advantage... being able to use these oldies but goodies lenses from way back even before I was born. :)Read full review
Twice as long, Three times as heavy as current zoom. Doesn't Auto focus, matrix meter, limited zoom ratio. It's a lens for photographers, not snapshot picture takers. Lens is 30 yrs. old. 30 years from now will still work perfectly, current half plastic lenses will have long since died. For a person who has only used AF-S lenses, the mechanical quality of the old lens will amaze. Image quality is as good or better than the finest, multi thousand $ current lens, at a tenth the price. 35-70mm covers moderate wide to moderate tele range, with performance similar to a prime lens.

This lens is great for shooting video. Very sharp, basically par focal, it tracks the same stop throughout the zoom, and the focus ring has hard stops making a follow focus friendly lens.

Excellent condition with very little signs of wear. Zoom ring is well damped with a slight click at travel end. Focus ring is lightly damped with a slight click at travel end. Very satisfied with this lens.

For what I paid for the lens I can’t be dissatisfied. It is a nice zoom lens with a very clear image. Very lightweight and has become my go to lens when I need midrange flexibility. Not the best glass but will get the job done. I have used this lens on numerous video shoots and because of its lightweight it works well when using 3 axis gimbals like the Moza air or zhyiun crane

It is a lens with a wide range use, especially in the video footage. Personally I appreciate this lens even in landscape photography. With a good digital camera and the correct setting of preferences, you can take shots very similar to the machines of the 70s / 80s. There are modern lenses that are significantly more crystalline. However I love to have this imperfection in some situations, that I like, without having to apply filters in PS or LR. I bought this lens from Japan and received an object that seems just out of the box.

A little on the large and heavy side, but IQ is surprisingly good. I think I prefer the Nikkor 28-50 ais as it's a range I use more and it's smaller, but the 35-70 is still a keeper.
