Good bit of kit
This is a handy device to have around. It prints on various widths up to 12mm. Really nice feature is that tapes are available to print light colours on dark tape (I have white print on black tape). There is also an extra strong vinyl/flexible tape available which is UV stable so suitable for outdoor use and flexible enough for cable labelling etc. The unit has a lite version of the labelling software internally- just plug the thing into a USB port and the software's available on the virtual USB drive that appears on your computer (Mac/PC compatible, not sure if there's a way to get this working on Linux). There's an internal lithium battery that auto-recharges and supplements the USB port's power during printing, so no external power supply required. There is also a fully featured software suite available to download for free from the Dymo website that gives advanced features such as barcoding, QR codes, image/logo import, serial numbering etc. The software's fairly good, but it does leave an excessive amount of blank tape at the start and finish of the print (good way for Dymo to make more money from people using more tape than necessary). I overcome this by combining multiple labels into one print, then cutting the individual labels with scissors. There are far cheaper compatible (D1) tapes available on eBay which seem to be just as good quality as the originals, so that's another way to get the best bang for your Pound with these things. Dymo PnP Label Manager.
I started out with a Brother hand help label maker and it was very complicated to use. The Dymo has been a joy - easy and simple to use nicely constructed, with very clever software llinking it to the computer via a simple USB connection. Cannot fault it.
