About this product

Product Information

Jean-Jacques Annaud's epic drama BLACK GOLD (OR NOIR) is set in the 1930's Arabian Peninsula, and concerns two young Arab princes (Akin Gazi and Tahar Rahim) who were adopted by their father's enemy (Antonio Banderas) as part of a peace treaty. When they grow up they are visited by a Texan oil man, who tells them of the rich oil reserves in the no-mans land between the two warring kingdoms - setting in motion a fierce battle, not just for control of the precious no-mans land, but for the entire kingdoms.

ReviewsWhatÆs On TV - Riz Ahmed provides some much needed spark as AudaÆs irreverent half-brother, a doctor who dispenses Western medicine and sceptical rationalism in equal doses., Digital Spy - There are flickers of intrigue in the film and Annaud gives it a seductive feel.

  • An entertaining and educational movie

A very good film portraying how the various tribes in present day Saudi Arabia were united once oil was discovered there. Antonio Banderas and Mark Strong delivering fine performances as the two warring Sultans. The film goes on to show how the discovery of oil and the huge wealth it generated for the King transformed the country from a nation of feudal warring tribes into a well developed country with roads and hospitals.
