  • Reasonably Priced and Gives Superb Results

There are a lot of excellent photographers out there with legacy Nikon glass that do not care for these modern, lightweight ‘plastic’ lenses. Being a chap of a certain age, I appreciate the weight/cost saving and, without prejudice the excellent optical performance this lens can produce. In particular, I had been researching a suitable micro lens to partner with the ES-1 slide copier. It seems to be a well-kept secret that you can very successfully copy sides/B&W negs with a DX camera, although Nikon insists that the more expensive ES-2 Camera kit (ideally suited for use with the Nikon D850) plus extension tubes and a 60mm micro Nikkor is the only way to go. It may be more sophisticated, but it is rather pricy. The ES-1 adapter (52mm thread) screws directly onto the front of this lens and keeps things nice and simple. The digitization results I have obtained far exceed any flatbed scanner I have used, and you have the option of producing a camera RAW file that will allow further manipulation in Photoshop.

  • Super All-Rounder!

Lovely general-purpose lens for those native 50mm shooters. Slightly longer on DX (~60mm equivalent) but a lovely focal-length. Does slightly larger than 1:1 macro and as a result, it's a great lens for close work. Shorter than I'd use for purely dedicated macro as it's easy to get in the way of your own light, but with care and a little manoeuvring, it's more than possible to get well-lit macros. Oh.. this lens is sharp at non macro distances from 2.8. Astounding considering its low cost. Definite thumbs up and glad that I purchased one.

  • Sharp, versatile lens

It’s a budget micro (macro) lens. Great for portraiture photography too. Plastic exterior but with metal mount. Not the quickest but it’s great for the value. Recommended.

  • Awesome lens for the money

Superb image quality and versatile; Brilliant for macro as well as portraits. Feels a little plasticy, but performs superbly, and for the price - amazing. Glad I went for 40mm, over 35 or 50mm, as a better all rounder.

  • Excellent product, highly recommended.

I have had this lens a short while now and I absolutely love it. I have found it to be very sharp and I love how close I can focus. It has opened up a whole new world of macro for me.
