  • Has potential but lacks details.

Difficult to review this book because it doesn’t really do what it purports to do. I like the many ideas that it contains and I will be using several of them with my Scout Troop. BUT many of the projects require skills, knowledge and resources that are not clearly set out or explained. My Scouting partner has many years of experience as a primary teacher but was unable to complete many of the projects without my input simply because key points were not explained or made explicit. For instance, some projects convert a stick into a variety of relatively complex items. To undertake the projects successfully, it was necessary to use a set of knots that are neither listed nor explained. Consequently, my partner could not complete about half of the projects that they attempted. This situation does not mean the book is a “bad” one, but (IMHO) it does suggest that it needs either a fundamental overhaul or a warning that it’s not aimed at the beginner.
