I love her books! Each of her books (9 in total and I'm busy reading the last one!) is an individual crime story, solved eventually by Patrik Hedstrom and his team, usually with a bit of help and interference from his wife Ericka Falke. Throughout all the books though we follow the lives of Ericka and her sister, who's not had a good life, and the policemen and women who work with Patrick through their heartaches and problems in lives.. The subjects are harsh, the stories are sometimes tough to read and in some cases the endings are still sad, but the way she writes makes it difficult to put the book down, as interspersed throughout the book, there are short (often only 2 pages) paragraphs of events in the past (sometimes 80+ years previously) that link with the present. This makes her books harder to put down while you try so hard to get the connection. This particular book is not my favourite by her, but I enjoyed it nevertheless and it took me a while to work out how the past connected to the future and the murder connected to other murders. so it was still a compulsive read. It's worth noting that for some reason this book is also available in English under the title "The Gallows Bird", so don't make the mistake I did and buy both copies - they're the same book!!Read full review
