  • The best Mikado ever

Over the years ( and I am getting on a bit now ) I have seen a number of Mikado productions - this is head and shoulders the best. From a technical viewpoint the DVD comes out reasonably well with good filming , great production and editing and brilliant colour and clarity. The sound is slightly poor and is best viewed with subtitles on. But it is of course a recording of a live performance so perhaps can be forgiven Mikado is meant to be joyous and this is joyous in spades The cast absolutely throw themselves at the production and it simply explodes with fun. There is no weakness in any of the cast. Koko has a good voice but Nanki-Poo's is simply brilliant. The basses of Pooh-Bah and the Mikado himself are deep and resonant. The highlight of the show for me was the totally outrageous Petit-Sing - a complete tour de force. I cannot recommend this enough - buy and immerse yourself in 2 hours of unforgettable fun
