I'm Converted!
I have long been a fan of the original Breville type of toastie-makers, the ones that make sealed triangle-shaped pockets of gooey gluttony, I never particularly fancied a standard sandwich press because I figured the filling would leak out of the unsealed sides. After a couple of recent purchases of "easy to clean" triangle toastie makers that were abysmal I decided to try this press with the expectation I might be able to get some kind of decent toastie out of it if I really practiced to fond a good method.
I needn't have worried - and I now wish I had bought one of these years ago, it is tremendous! I always lightly butter (Lurpak Spreadable) the outside of the bread if it is sliced bread and I have not yet made a bad toastie, even when they are seriously overfilled compared to the amount of filling you could get in a triangle toastie. I have also made bloomer-toasties, paninis and pitta-toasties, which were all marvellous. The weight of the lid is just about perfect and has never crushed any of the types of bread I have tried, nor have I had the problem where the bread burns before the inside melts, possibly because I lightly butter the outside. It is also very easy to clean because the plates are completely flat, even after a mild spill, as long as you give it a wipe down with 1-2 sheets of kitchen roll before it has fully cooled.
Overall I give this ten out of ten, I am absolutely over the moon with it, highly recommended!
