  • A Classic Flashgun

The 283 is a legend for good reason. It provides a massively powerful output, with very fine control, so it can be used as a small frontal highlighter or a 'fill-the-room' blitz to light up a cave! Coupled with real-world durability and using sensible AA batteries, what's not to like? I used to fit one onto film cameras, that could survive the higher voltages it uses to trigger, which was good fun. Nowadays, I use the on-board flash from my small digital camera and fir the 283 with a slave trigger. In both cases, it performs flawlessly.

  • Vivitar 283 - solid workhorse of a flash

The Vivitar 283 is an ageing but solid workhorse of a flash. Loads of accessories are available and it’s easily adapted for high speed photography. Affordable enough to use in multiple set-ups. One word of warning - don’t connect a 283 directly to a modern electronic camera; the voltages produced may fry it.

  • classic 'sun gun'

These flash guns are now...nearly 40 years old, they were stunning then and are still pretty amazing. Whilst simply a brilliant product, I will urge you to read about their use on digital cameras. The hot shoe trigger voltage is almost certainly going to be excessive. 35mm cameras could take this but digital cameras can have their electronics fried by the volts. BE WARNED. If you want a possible safer unit look at the 285HV, but again check the individual unit before committing it to a digital camera hot shoe. Enjoy!

  • Great Gun!

Looks brand new. Works perfectly with my spare battery pack. The sync lead is not correct - is for some other gun. However works OK with my spare sync lead. Altogether a bargain.
