Excellent book, have read it four times now and still find it a compelling read - there are so many facets to it. An excellent book club choice.
I really enjoyed this book. At first I was really irritated by the main character Anna (and particularly her academic style!) but this book is a study in parenting styles, the negotiation of roles within marriage, the social pressures on both gender roles and parenting, and the social history of the remote islands with isolated struggling societies in the late 1800's.
