Fatally flawed, can't be used for recording.
I bought this desk to use for recording with Cubase 9 and at first all seemed good; the build quality was excellent with firm and precise controls, the effects were good and the graphic EQ was effective. Unfortunately when used to record and monitor, there was a high pitched whining sound that leaked into the recorded tracks. With the routing that this desk uses, to be able to monitor the tack being laid down the 'USB in' and the phones source had to be set to 'control out', if they weren't then all the info from the computer was re-sent to the track being recorded, in effect creating a master track and making the recording of individual tracks impossible. When the USB and phones source were set this way, the whining appeared, although it wasn't very loud, by the time a few tracks wee laid down and it was present on all of them, it became very obvious in the recording. I'd previously bought a second hand Alto live 1202 and thought that the problem was just with this desk but when I bought the new 802, I realised that it was a design fault.
I'd taken my 1202 to the local dealers and we tried it with a different computer, cables and DAW. I'd also downloaded different ASIOs; all of this made no difference.
I contacted ALTO customer support and they had no solution. The result was that I returned both desks and bought a Behringer and now I have no problems.
